The People Choice Awards for Dance........
The film industry has The Academy Awards, Television has the Emmy Awards and Broadway has the Tony Awards. Now, Ballroom Dance has The Prestige Awards!
Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and similar programs have catapulted ballroom dance to prime time television. The audience of dancers and non-dancers alike are glued to the weekly competitions.
The First Prestige Awards will recognize excellence in the Ballroom Dance Industry by honoring the men and women who bring their special brand of athleticism, artistry, and grace to the American viewing audience and all those that contribute to the ballroom industry through fashion, art, and photograph – from coaching to event production, from costume design to action photography.
Nominations were collected by an independent survey from all over the country for 19 categories in the first round of voting that began in September 2008. Nominee's were then selected in January 2009. With the second round of voting completed we held the awards this year at the at the Cleveland DanceSport Championships, September 24th and 25th, 2009. The award winners have now been posted.
Congratulations to both the Nominee's and our Award Winners. Many thanks to all that attended and made this year's first award event so memorable. We look forward to many more award events.
